  I am a 32 year old who never exercises or practice any kind of sports at all (especially extreme ones). I just went yesterday to the canyoning at Abel Tasman park, and just loved it. It was tough, but it was really worth. You get a lot for what you pay. The guides (pete and hadrian) were very friendly and supportive, and we did daring activities that I never thought I would be able to do. They even entertain us doing some crazy moves that the cirque du soleil wouldn't dare to repeat.
  
  I was in a group of 6 (all of them more experienced than I), but the leaders were very patient and supportive, so I could do the rappel, zipline, jumps without slowing down the rest of the group (if you are scared, they always offer you a easier, but less exciting alternative).
  
  This is an activity that I would recommend for most people (you need to know how to swim, so the water doesn't come trough your nose, and you need to listen to what they say, because those guys are pros) that I know. The water might be cold, but the wetsuits they provide are more than enough to endure it.
